Recorded Account

2-8 CAV Battalion Commander coin during OIF 06-08. I served as the Battalion Intelligence Officer, "S-2" for the unit. Our S2 shop grew in responsibility as operational tempo increased- going from one office in the HQs to expando vans behind the HQs that gave us the room to store evidence, conduct analysis, review maps and other intelligence, and conduct meetings away from the main HQs. The investment of the operations officer (MAJ Todd Fox) and the Battalion Commander (LTC Scott Efflandt) made us an effective team of Soldiers, NCOs, and officers. A good lesson to learn in a battalion- investment from leaders spurs growth and development and increases the capability of the team tenfold. This job was the most rewarding of my 25 years in the Army.
