Recorded Account
The US Army Intelligence and Security Command is the 2-star US Army HQs charged with operational and strategic intelligence missions across the globe- responsible for manning, training, and equipping the Army's intelligence force above the tactical level. Composed of several major subordinate commands- INSCOM has units across the globe providing intelligence support to theater commanders and the US interagency. Major commands consist of Army Counterintelligence, Human Intelligence, support to the NSA through multiple units, the Army's Service Intel Center (NGIC), and several theater MI brigades directly supporting combatant commanders across the globe. I received this coin from MG Gary Johnston, former commander of INSCOM, when I was the battalion commander of 2d MI in Wiesbaden, Germany in 2020. I served with Gary Johnston at Fort Bragg and Afghanistan in 2014. He was a mentor of mine and to many in Army intelligence. I miss him dearly. Rest in Peace- Gary W. Johnston October 21, 1964- January 20, 2022.
