Recorded Account
The Special Troops Battalion was a new unit devised to house all the separate company sized elements needed for special missions under the BCT model. The intelligence company, MPs, Engineers, and signaleers were assigned to the STB. This model changed over time, as the maneuver brigades had to decide how to command and control these special units- all needed for the BCT to operate independently across vast distances. 1st BCT's STB was commanded by then LTC Maria Zumwalt (later COL Zumwalt). I was the Alpha Company Commander (ASSASSIN), which was the MI Company for 1st BCT. Bravo Company was the Signal Company (Bushmaster). and HHC (Thunder) had the Military Police, Engineers, and other low-density specialities needed by the Brigade.
