Recorded Account
I received this coin in 2007 during the "Surge"- Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. As the S2 for 2-8 CAV, one of our tasks was mentoring the 9th Iraqi Armored Division as they formed their armored Division to protect Baghdad with wheeled and tracked units. Through the Military Transition Team assigned to the 9th Division, we worked with the intelligence unit of the 9th IA Division and I remember our team training them on how intelligence supported ground units, specifically combined arms teams (infantry + armor) conducting security missions in an urban environment.
